I was reading the online papers this morning when I came across an article on The New York Times reporting on the successful auction of Triptych, a 1976 art by Francis Bacon. if you have read my other blog, you would know that I am interested in auctions but I just don’t understand how some people could spend so much money on a piece of art….. especially an art piece like this!

You can say that I am not knowledgeable in fine arts but no matter how I look at this, this piece of art surely does not worth US$86 million??? Granted, the nett sale price is “ONLY” US$77 million while the balance is commission paid to auction house, Sotheby’s. Still, some people will think that a fine piece of art like this would be worth investing in.
For me, if I have $86 million, I certainly would not buy a piece of art. Even if I would, maybe after a long fever or something, I would buy something that looks more pleasant to the eye!
I seem to remember reading about the Duggar family from Arkansas a couple of years ago, about them expecting their child number-I-have-forgotten-what. Today, on Mothers Day, I read on MSNBC.com that they are expecting baby number 18! I was shocked to say the least. Boy, will they ever stop?

I marvel at how they managed to raise the family financially and spiritually. They all seem like normal, healthy children who are home schooled, attend Bible and music classes.
While I am not a parent myself, I see how some of my friends struggle with pregnancy, with the responsibility of bringing up the children right, especially in the early years, struggle with putting them through school and tertiary education, worrying when the children fall ill, when they get into fights, when they have a brush with the law. Problems just seem endless.
And then here is the Duggar family, raising the children with joy. Of course, there may be problems that we, the public, are not privy to. Who knows, right? But they seem really happy! I really salute them.
