This morning, Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin was sworn in as the NEW Perak Menteri Besar, succeeding Dato Seri Diraja Mohd Tajol Rosli Ghazali, after a tumultuous past week since winning the 2008 12th General Elections on 8th March, 2008, and wresting the State of Perak from the hands of Barisan Nasional.

Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin’s political party, PAS, along side the DAP and PKR, managed to garner the majority of the State Assembly Seats.
Everyone knows that PAS is not a party that non-Muslims will readily accept. Just look at how the Chinese-supported opposition party, the DAP, fell by the wayside in the 1999 General Elections. Heck, even my Muslim friends do not like PAS because of the extreme Islamic fundamentals that they try to impose on EVERYONE.
It is fine if they give us a Welfare state. The first goodie announced by the new Perak MB came in the form of a waiver for all compound notices and parking summonses issued by local councils in Perak until today. I personally think that this is not a good move. You can lower the amount but not waive because if these people have committed an offence, then they should pay the price.
It is fine if PAS imposes Hudud Laws on Muslims ONLY but to keep threatening all of us with the formation of an Islamic Government at State level and later on at Federal level is a no-no to many Malaysians because Malaysia is a multi-racial country. A zebra never change its stripes and though they may project a softer image and not talk about forming an Islamic Government, they will do so the first chance they get.
So, let me say, if ANY Government goes out of line, it is OUR right to show them the door. Why do people put up with the bad apples? Do you want bad policies governing you? I don’t think so. Hence, the NEW State Governments need to be even better than the previous State Governments of Barisan Nasional. They have an even heavier responsibility to do right by us. When this term is up, we will decide who the lesser devil is.
